Rainy days

It been raining a bit pretty much everyday here. It's not so fun for me but the plants are enjoying it. I'm worried about the chill a little bit. The temperature has been at about 60 which should be ok. The melon may not like it so much.

Rabbits have eaten all the corn that sprouted in the westside of the garden I gated the east side and so far so good. A few corn sprouts have started in the small garden and the gate around that seems to have kept the cottontails out for now! All of the green okra that spouted had vanished. It was really windy a few nights ago and we lost a tomato plant. Luckily we still had a few seedlings and I replanted one. I think the wind may have got to the Okra. We have some more in the seedling tray that just starting to sprout so hopefully that will make it.

The first few lavender sprouts are growing I'm worried about the moisture lavender likes dry spaces. I'm going to grow it in a container when they perk up a little if they make it that long. Overall the rain has been good. Things are growing really fast right now.

First we have some corn the blue corn is growing much faster the the red. The blue corn has a shorter growing season so everything is ok.
This is Blue corn

This is red corn

The purple okra is doing really well and I think that one of the seeds may be albino!!!
if you look on the right the leaves on the plant have a light yellow veins instead of purple veins. I have to thin the okra soon and i really want to save this one to see if the fruit and flowers will be a different color as well maybe i can even get some albino seeds if it gets that far.

The melon is growing faster then the weeds soon hopefully the vines will start and it will cover the ground and block the weeds.

One of our neighbors bought some started plants from the farmers market. It's really exciting to see plant that are growing so well but it doesn't help my patience she's growing peppers, tomatoes, and onions.

Banana Pepper

Bell Pepper (and onions in the back)

Roma Tomato

Our sunflowers are really big already and sprouting new "true leaves" I think I'm going to name this one "Vincent" cuz I'm that cheesy

Let's get this party started!!!!

Over the last few days a number of new seedlings emerged! First we have some squash
I'm not sure whether it's the patty pan of the butternut but time will tell all!
A few of the cucumbers made show as well. Again I'm not sure whether it's the lemon of the green but here they are!!! You'll notice them in the tray on the right of the squash most of the tray hasn't sprouted yet.
The purple okra is doing wonderfully I going to have to thin them out soon which is super sad but necessary.
There are so far three green okra seedling to join their purple relatives!

And last but not least THE CORN AND MELON ARE HERE!!!!!!!!

I can't be more happy! They may not make it through the whole summer and i may not get any melons on the vine but I'm glad they at least spouted right in out backyard. The corn pictured is the red corn. The blue corn sprouted as well and there is another duo of melon sprouts.

Feeling Babylonian pt. 1

Hanging garden. Since I found out how upside down gardening works I have been obsessed!. Right Now Reed, Linda and I are trying to plan and build hanging pots for some seedlings we have in the mini green house. we are not going to pay 20 bucks each fro those topsy turvy things

we have about 12 of these buckets right now and I have been doing a few experiments in my down time. This is the first one...

You can tell from this angle but it's nailed to the banister of the back porch
it's growing quite nicely too! The next one looks super janky from afar. It's hanging on a clothesline buy some black yarn.

but check out the close up

both of these plants will be transferred to another bucket soon as the other plants are ready. Both are just tomatoes but we want to hang squash, pole beans, and cucumbers too!

Everyone loves PICTURES!!!

These are the purple okra sprouts! I at first thought that little weeds sprouting were okra but the these little guys popped up.Seedlings kinda all look the same until they get "true leaves" It's been super hot here recently it was 90 degrees or more the last few days. It doesn't seem too bad until you remember that it drops to -30 here in the winter. I guess the okra likes it more than i do. There are about 10-20 plants right now and we'll see if more come up today

The broccoli seems to like the climate the best right now. They are growing super tall in their partial shade spot in the garden

these guys weren't so lucky this box has all the seedlings we haven't planted or don't have room for. This broccoli isn't doing nearly as well. They may end up in the compost soon. The tomato plants are small but healthy maybe we'll use them for
hanging soon. All the little purple plants are Kohlrabi. I'm hoping give a lot of them away to Kai soon.

Sunflower sprout!!!! just noticed them today! there are about three right now let's hope we get to 10 soon!

There is still nothing from most of the seeds planted but it's just barely over a week and somethings need time I'm hoping for something new everyday for a bit.

Background

So some friends of mine suggested we grow a small garden. Jason and Reed being way more on top of things then I ever am started tomato, basil, broccoli, Kohlrabi, and Oregano seedlings in the green house. The oregano didn't make it but everything else is thriving right now.
